πΉοΈ How to spot fake Game Boy Advance console cases (a simple guide for collectors)
Do you have a Game Boy Advance or SP saved up?
Caution: Many consoles on the market have replaced (non-original) shells .
This isn't bad if you know it... but it does affect its value if you plan to collect or sell!
At MartZ Gaming, we'll teach you how to detect whether your console has an original or fake case , so you won't be fooled and can sell or buy with confidence.
π 1. Look at the Nintendo logo
-
Original: perfectly embossed logo on the back.
-
Fake: Sometimes it is a sticker, or it is engraved but with crooked or poorly defined edges.
π 2. Look at the color and finish of the plastic
-
The originals have a solid finish, matte or glossy depending on the model, and very specific colors.
-
Many Chinese replacement cases have slightly different, brighter colors or plastics that feel βcheapβ to the touch.
π 3. Check the screws
-
Original Game Boy uses triwing (Y-shaped) screws .
-
If your console has Philips screws (normal cross), it is very likely that the case has been replaced.
π 4. Read the model number
-
Rear: Should say AGS-001 (SP) or AGB-001 (Advance).
-
If the engraving is off-center, crooked, or looks too new, be suspicious.
π 5. Feel the weight
-
The original cases have a robust weight.
-
Some replicas are lighter and make strange creaking noises when squeezed.
π₯ Bonus: Limited Editions
If you see a Game Boy Advance SP Pikachu, NES, Zelda, etc. edition, watch out!
They are the most counterfeited in casing.
-
Check the details of the screen printing and colors carefully.
-
Better yet, consult an expert (like us!).

π« Why does it matter to know?
Because for collectors, originality is everything .
