🔍 Is your Game Boy cartridge not working? Here's how to try it (and revive it like a pro)

Few things hurt more than inserting a Game Boy cartridge into your console… and not being able to see the "Nintendo" logo clearly. But don't worry: all is not lost.
Here at MartZ Gaming, we'll tell you how to tell if a cartridge still works and what you can do to bring it back to life like a true retro gamer.

✅ 1. How do you know if a cartridge works?

First things first:

• Insert the cartridge firmly into your Game Boy

• Make sure the console has charged batteries or enough battery life

• Turn it on and see if the start screen with the Nintendo logo appears.

👉 If the logo appears and the game launches: IT WORKS
👉 If the logo appears but does not launch: the cartridge may be dirty or damaged
👉 If there is no logo: there is probably a contact or plate fault

🧼 2. Basic cartridge cleaning (unopened)

🔧 Materials:

• Cotton swabs

• Isopropyl alcohol (min. 90%)

• Patience and good background music

👣 Steps:

1. Moisten a cotton swab with alcohol

2. Gently rub the gold pins on the cartridge (never with water!)

3. Dry with the other end

4. Repeat if necessary

5. Please try again on the console.

💡 Never blow on the cartridge! Saliva oxidizes it.

🔩 3. What if it still doesn't work? The brave step (optional)

Many cartridges can be repaired by opening them and cleaning the plate inside , but be careful! This requires:

• Special tri-wing or gamebit screwdriver

• Basic knowledge of electronics

• Be very careful with the battery if it is a game that saves the game (like Pokémon)

🕹️ What if it just won't start?

The cartridge may have a faulty board or be dead. In this case:

• Keep the cartridge if it is valuable (collection)

• Look for a guaranteed refurbished version

• And don't throw yours away without checking it carefully, it can be repaired.
